Strengthening Cross-Border Communities through Culture

The Municipality of Lenti submitted a project proposal entitled "Strengthening Cross-Border Communities through Culture" under the Interreg VI-A Hungary–Croatia Cooperation Programme 2021–2027 (Short project title: Cross-Cultural Connections, Project Code: HUHR/2401/5.2/022).
The project officially started on 1 March 2026 and has an implementation period of 12 months. The total project budget amounts to EUR 143,230, of which EUR 114,584 is funded by the European Union.
The primary objective of the project is to strengthen and sustain cross-border cooperation between citizens, civil society organisations, and local governments in Lenti (Hungary) and Mursko Središće (Croatia) by creating a collaborative framework that will continue to operate independently after the project's completion.
Building on the partnerships established through previous cooperation, the project focuses on the following key objectives:
Strengthening Existing Partnerships
The project builds upon the relationships developed through earlier cross-border cooperation initiatives. It brings together citizens, non-governmental organisations, and local authorities engaged in cultural exchange, contributing to a shared long-term vision of sustainable cross-border collaboration.
Encouraging Community-Led Initiatives
By promoting meaningful and continuous interaction among citizens, the project seeks to inspire community-driven cross-border initiatives. Through workshops and joint events, individuals and organisations will be empowered to actively nurture these relationships and independently develop future collaborative projects.
Establishing a Sustainable Framework for Joint Events
The project aims to create a sustainable and self-supporting framework for the continuous organisation of cross-border cultural events. By developing adaptable event-planning resources and establishing permanent channels for dialogue and cooperation, it seeks to ensure that joint cultural events become a lasting tradition in the region.
Promoting a Shared Cross-Border Cultural Identity
Through inclusive cultural events celebrating shared traditions, heritage, and artistic expression, the project seeks to foster a sense of common identity and pride in the region's cultural heritage. By bridging cultural and linguistic differences, it aims to establish lasting personal connections among participants and further strengthen the relationship between Mursko Središće and Lenti.
